Tips for your holiday in Bad Zwischenahn - How cool can a spa town be?

The Zwischenahner Meer is not a sea, but it feels like one. An inland lake that spreads out wide and calmly between meadows and small jetties. Sitting on the shore with a coffee in the morning, watching the sun set over the water in the evening - so fantastic! And if you want, you can simply sail, paddle or sail away.

A bit of history? Here you go! Why not cycle along the Ammerland Mill Route: small historic mills, old crafts. Plus a detour to Elmendorfer Burg - no longer complete, but a piece of real Zwischenahn history. The route is a great combination of culture and nature.

Glide leisurely across the water and see the Zwischenahner Meer from its calmest side: The White Fleet takes you comfortably from pier to pier. The best thing to do is simply go on board, let the wind blow around your nose and sip coffee or Aperol. Some ships even sail with a soundtrack or as a wedding ship. Fabulous.

Discover the Zwischenahner Meer from a whole new perspective. Whether sporty or simply relaxed: Float in the middle of the lake, look up at the sky and pause for a moment - magical.

Grab your bike, cycle along the riverside path and get off again and again to simply enjoy the view - the Zwischenahner Meer is perfect for a short break on two wheels or on foot. The path meanders through parks, gardens and banks. Once around, it's 12 kilometres - perfect for half a day with breaks, picnics and perhaps a dip in the water.

Ready for a journey through time? The open-air museum in Bad Zwischenahn shows how the Ammerland used to live. Half-timbered houses, thatched roofs, mills, bakehouses - like a small village by the water. It's especially nice when baking or old crafts are shown in summer. This is a real piece of history, surrounded by greenery.

It's blooming, it's humming, it's fragrant: hello from the Park der Gärten in Bad Zwischenahn! Here you can stroll through 40 different themed gardens, marvel at the beautiful rhododendrons and look out over all the floral splendour from the observation tower. It's incredibly impressive, even if you don't have green fingers.

In the centre of Bad Zwischenahn is a real gem: over 850 years old, Romanesque and Gothic, with a magnificent winged altar. When you enter the church, it automatically becomes quiet. And if you take a little time, you will discover small details that tell centuries-old stories.

Right by the water and yet very quiet: the spa gardens in Bad Zwischenahn are a favourite place if you just want to be outside. Paths, flowerbeds, beach chairs and small benches on the shore make it the perfect spot for a break. And sometimes doing nothing is the very best part of the programme.

Hepp, hepp, hepp - 180 steps later, THE view awaits: The Zwischenahner Meer, the park, the town - everything is at your feet. The former Wasserturm in Bad Zwischenahn is now a viewpoint and is really fun when you feel the wind at the top and realise how close the city and nature are here. A short detour with a wow effect.

From summer light nights to great concerts - there are regularly great events in the Kurpark in Bad Zwischenahn. The Wandelhalle right next door offers a lot of culture such as theatre and exhibitions.

Once a year, the whole village celebrates: stalls, market stands, music on stages, a parade through the centre and a big fireworks display by the lake. For one week, Bad Zwischenahn becomes a meeting place for everyone - relaxed, cheerful and friendly.

Moorland as far as the eye can see - mysterious, quiet, with a wide open sky. On the 57 km long moorland route, you cycle relaxed through the Ammerland, without climbs, but with plenty of atmosphere. It feels a bit like travelling to another world!

Oldenburg is just 20 minutes away - the perfect destination if you fancy a charming old town. Castle, museums, cafés: it's very cosy here, but not overcrowded. Plus: lots of North German charm.
